School has been in session for a little over a week at this point and we’re still trying to find our new rhythm. This is our first back to school season, and it has come with new changes and unfamiliar faces. Thankfully, because we’re only dealing with VPK at this point, there isn’t the added struggle of getting homework done…YET! Our morning routine has seen some changes, as well as our evenings. I’ve never been so grateful for my crockpot! If I thought I was crammed for time at night after getting home from work, now it’s even more hectic with preparing the next day’s lunch/snacks for school. Being able to come up with quick, weeknight dinners has been essential for our new routine.

Utilizing our time wisely in the evening has been key. I’ll often throw a meal in the crockpot so that when I get home from work all I will need to do is throw some veggies or potatoes into the oven to roast while my kids recap their day. Having this extra time to devote to them is a huge benefit and also gives us a chance to go over any art work or notes that they brought home from school.

♦Tip: Once you go through their backpacks, place them on a hook or in a closet next to the front door to save time the next morning.

One of my favorite meals growing up was sloppy joes! We didn’t have them often so maybe that’s why I was super excited any time we did. Now using my crockpot I can save time and make them for my kids so I can give them more attention in the evening and hear all about their day. I’ve crafted this recipe using Butterball® Ground Turkey (see coupon below) as a better alternative to ground beef. I appreciate the fact that Butterball Ground Turkey is lower in fat and calories and my kids and husband can’t tell the difference! Another great plus is that it doesn’t contain any artificial ingredients.

♦Tip: Most ingredients can be substituted for healthier options, i.e. replacing ground beef with 97/3 ground turkey, using sugar-free ketchup, and opting for all-natural versions.

My crock pot went belly up, but as soon as I remember to grab another one, I'm making these! We've always got ground turkey in the freezer.
